Happy Halloween

It’s that wonderful time of year where the weather hints at cooling down, the leaves are changing, parents dress up their pets and children for their own personal amusement and candy is freely exchanged.

Lisa and Grayson with a great big pumpkinGrayson has a really cute pirate costume that Grammy picked up a few weeks back. I was showing it to him when I got home from work yesterday only to see his eyes grow big and a huge smile beaming on his face. Jackson has several constumes from years past, but Texas has put a few pounds on him so we’ll see if the tuxedo, cape or UGA jersey still fit.

We picked up a few big bags of candy at Costco, though I am thinking we should have maybe bought more. There are a lot of kids in the neighborhood, but the Halloween parade at our clubhouse this evening may be enough for many of them. Unfortunately it will probably be littlest ones that get their fix, which are our favorites to see walking up to the door. Next year we’ll see how Grayson does…though he may have to tag along with Emily and Ellie, so he can see how its done.

Be sure to root on UGA tomorrow as they partake in the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party against the Florida swamp lizards. Go Dawgs!

Make a baby

I have the great fortune to work with some incredibly talented people in my job, which allows me to have a blast 90% of the time while I am working. What I get most excited about makes me 100% of a geek according to Lisa, but if you ask me she secretly likes my nerdiness, but I digress.

My company is working on a little project for the group that put together a really fun site for Volkswagen’s new Routan mini-van: the RoutanBabyMaker 3000. I wasn’t involved with the site, but I have spent some time playing with it and wanted to share.

The basic concept is that you can make a baby or at least see what a baby could look like with the person of your choosing. All you need is a picture of you, them, and a few minutes to spare clicking away. Once you’re done you can share your baby with the world.

If you were curious on how accurate it can be, check out what I made (with the help of Lisa’s picture) this morning and how it stacks up to Grayson (he’s on the right).

Grayson vs Routan Baby

What are you waiting on? Go make a baby!

As seen on TV

Last night, I was flipping through a drug store ad and came across something that seemed too bizarre to be real. The Neti Pot.

Neti Pot - the nasal bidetNot sure if you have seen this, but basically it is a little pot that essentially acts as a bidet for your nose flushing water through one nostril and out the other. Ayurvedic nasal irrigation at its finest. Sold? Buy one here.

Not so fast, you say?

Well if you need a celebrity endorsement, how about Oprah and Lisa’s beloved Dr. Oz who featured the nose bidet on the show last year and as I learned in my intensive research (about five minutes of Googling) sales jumped through the roof. Sold? Buy one here.

Still not ready?

As much as pictures and Oprah anecdotes help, sometimes you need to see something in full sight, sound and motion?  YouTube reveals over 275 results for “neti pot“, with this one (rated PG-13) being my personal favorite because in a some strange way I can appreciate this guy’s approach to going outside the recommended saline solution. Done right and it didn’t seem too uncomfortable, though I am not sure I could ever get to the point where this was part of my morning routine in between putting my contacts in and brushing my teeth. Of course we do use a blue rubber nose sucker on Grayson’s nose.

Just doesn’t seem like my cup of tea, something about the fact that the pot looks more like a tea pot than a nasal irrigator and the flow of “water” out the other nostril.

October catchup

So much has been going on and we’ve been talking about how we have posted anything in about two months. Sorry to any loyal readers, but I’m hoping to get back to posting regularly.

Lots of good things and lots of fun in the Manchee household. We are getting settled into the house and room by room adding finishing touches. Grayson’s room is the most complete and looking very nice (pictures coming soon).

He had his 6-month check up and is weighing in just shy of 16 pounds! When he is not rolling around, he likes grabbing things — either to put into his mouth or test their willingness to give (think hair, skin and dog ears). The boy loves to laugh and smile, not to mention getting attention from family, friends or strangers.

I’ll keep this short as my finger is getting gnawed on and my hand covered in drool, but here is a picture from the neighborhood fall festival:
