What’s in a name?

As Lisa and I were riding around Frisco looking at houses, we were discussing baby names. She has had a long fascination/obsession with Olivia. So we are good for girl’s names. Oh and I like it, too.

For boy’s names, we have a bit more of a challenge. Lisa didn’t appreciate my recommendations for whatever sign or object I saw as we were driving — Concrete, Nissan, Community, Moped, Remax, Hemi, Ridge, Lakeside, and the list goes on.

While sitting here watching football, I feel compelled to break out the notepad and take some serious notes. There are some great names on the rosters of college football teams.

LSU
Orlando, Ace, T-Bob, Kentravis, Ciron, Delvin

vs.

South Carolina
Dion, Ranzino, Jamarial, Foxy, Clifton, Gurminder

Not surprisingly LSU is in the lead right now, not just in the game, but with the best names out of the bunch.

UGA has a pretty solid group, as well:
Knowshon, Brannan, Cortney, Tripp, Demarcus, Tanner

Lisa gave me a book a few weeks back and there is a whole section about saying the names out load (and practicing yelling them), seeing what initials spell out, and making sure they are not names a kid will have trouble spelling or get pummeled on the playground. Obviously these guys are doing something right, getting a free education and playing a game they love for 90,000+ of their closest friends, but is it the name that toughened them up and got them where they’re at (think J.R. Cash’s – Boy Named Sue) or was it a combination of fluoride in their water and extra vitamins in their milk?

A lot to think about, especially after a couple of game day cocktails. Back to the game on my new big screen TV. Hmmm, Mitsubishi Manchee, that kinda has nice ring to it…
